Hello!
After many years of VR development for industrial and heritage applications, I decided to finally roll up my sleeves and start working on a VR game, “Particular Reality”.
If you want to follow its development, you’re in the right place!
I’m going to stick to a set of already established core principles, but I’m also eager to listen to the community, as there’s a lot of room to shape the project along the way.
I will do my best to show the development process in detail, but without spoiling the game too much.
In August, I managed to clear my calendar for 16 days, which I used to build the proof of concept prototype I’m unveiling today (what better day, with the upcoming announcement of the Meta Quest 3 headset?). It features a locomotion system I’ve been thinking about for a long time, and that AFAIK is innovative.
I decided to keep a devlog during the PoC development, and I enjoyed it, so I plan to keep going. I’ve always enjoyed reading development diaries, starting with the legendary Karateka and Prince of Persia journals by Jordan Mechner. Time to try and write one!
For the upcoming 16 days, I’m going to publish the entries I wrote in August, daily.
Meanwhile, I will go back to the project and start working towards the next milestone. I won’t be able to do the 10-14 hours days I did in my prototyping “full immersion”, but I will still write something every time I work on the project and share new entries along the way.
